In case you were wondering: no, we haven't reneged on our promise to post a new TWO50TWO story every week. I wrote it on Instagram on Saturday, but I didn't get to post it here on the blog right after.
Last week was a bit hectic. I crashed Jox's company Christmas party, and I also had an interview with Bloomberg Philippines on Freelancer.com's recent Fast 50 report. Aside from all of these events, we (that's me with fellow The Red Whistle volunteers Ron and Mark) had to finish The Red Whistle's art and literary folio, which we also launched at Today x Future Saturday last week--just in time for World AIDS Month. (You can download our labor of love, Red Letter Days, by clicking here.)
It's almost Christmas, and I'm on a break, so I hope to get to my writing while I have some time in my hands. I hate being idle, and while some people close to me tell me I need to take a break, I like trying to be as productive as possible. I discussed with a friend about the possibility of finally doing that Vipassana meditation retreat, although the next schedule won't be until early next year, by which I assume work will start picking up again. (Don't we all wish we all had the luxury to take breaks whenever we need to?)
Anyway, here's the fifth story for TWO50TWO:
This story is a bit special: it's the first time Jox is writing the story for a photo I took.
I had to re-read it again to understand what it was about, which formed an interesting backstory in my head about the characters.
(Read the story, below.)
"Sir, wala talaga. Masyado nang malalim. Nawala na." Ngayon, naniniwala na ako. Alam kong hindi na ako magiging tama.
I could feel it burning as I stepped outside the house: my face, as if the air were a curtain of fire, or a pool of acid. You asked me if everything was all right this morning and I told you yes, just as I jumped from my chair when my phone vibrated on the table during breakfast.
HELLO, MY NAME IS EVAN TAN.
I'm a writer and communications professional based in Manila, Philippines. Outside of my regular job, I like to travel, work out, volunteer, watch movies and plays, go to art galleries/ fairs and museums, read books, and eat vegetarian food.
